Classical Ballet is the foundation of all dance and therefore we encourage all students to study this dance form. From an early age it helps to improve posture, flexibility, muscle tone and musicality. We concentrate on the technique of ballet but also encourage the children to be expressive and creative through their dance. Classical Ballet is taught following the RAD syllabus and examinations are taken when students become ready to move onto the next grade.
Pre-Primary – Primary Ballet
Pre-Primary and Primary Ballet are for children who have just started school, up to approximately age 7. This syllabus teaches the foundations of ballet whilst remaining fun and creative, preparing children for graded studies. Primary in Dance examinations are taken before a child enters into the graded syllabus.

Graded Syllabus
The RAD grades 1-8 provide a fantastic platform to learn Classical Ballet, incorporating barre, centre work, free-movement and character dance, ensuring all boundaries of Classical Ballet are studied. From Grade 5, students usually start Pointe work depending upon years of study and individual development. More serious students can study both graded syllabus and vocational grades simultaneously once they have reached a certain level of ballet.

Vocational Grades
Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 provide an in-depth study of ballet for those students who have reached a certain level and wish to take their study more seriously. These grades also help prepare students for a career in dance.

UCAS Points
Graded and vocational graded examinations in RAD Classical Ballet are allocated points on the UCAS tariff.  Those students who have achieved a pass or higher in Grades 6, 7, 8, Intermediate or Advanced Foundation can use their RAD exam result towards their points tariff when applying to a relevant course at a university or higher education in the UK.
